The photo above shows the eye-catching Painted Hills Unit in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument of Oregon. These conspicuous layers represent different claystone deposits laid down about 25 million years ago when this area was a floodplain. Over time, erosion has exposed the ochre, orange and apricot layering. The coloration of the claystone strata seem to change with changing light conditions and moisture levels. Again, Oregon. I love you. :’)

Totally listening to him, watching this, and pretending he’s singing whatever song of his is playing on my iTunes right now. I wish he’d tour more often :(

This seriously might just be the nerdiest book I’ve ever had to buy. Definitely not looking forward to this class. I have never been good at measurements and conversions. GOOD THING I WENT INTO THE SCIENCE FIELD! Someone come teach this stuff to me.

mustachexpress asked: "Schist happens", that makes me exceedingly happy! An old professor of mine had a poster that said that haha. Geology jokes, they're the best.
They really are! I think more people need to make puns. They’re easily my favourite kind of “joke”. :D
Also: I want that poster…!
